Meet Prof (Dr.) D K Verma

Dedicated to advancing knowledge through rigorous research and inspiring teaching, Prof. Dr. Deepak Kumar Verma is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Professor of SC, ST & OBC Development at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University of Social Sciences (BRAUSS), a State University of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, India, and currently serves as Director (Research, Extension & Training) and Dean, School of Dr. Ambedkar Thought & Philosophy. With over three decades of experience in teaching, research, and policy engagement in the social sciences, his work focuses on marginalized communities, social justice, and sustainable development. He has served as Chairman of a Working Sub-Group and as a Committee Member of the Planning Commission of India for the XII Five Year Plan (Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India). Prof. Verma has led several policy-oriented research projects for the Government of India, State Governments, and international organizations, including a UGC–STRIDE project, a commissioned study for the Madhya Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Commission on Other Backward Classes, and a BRAUSS–ILO collaborative initiative, and has supervised 36 PhD theses and 126 MPhil dissertations. He has served on the Governing Boards, Executive Councils, and Academic Councils of several central and state universities and institutions. A recipient of the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Lifetime Achievement Award, his scholarly contributions include the Theory of Social Devolution and the sociological concept of Affirmed Status. An active member of the International Sociological Association, he has participated in and chaired sessions at major international academic forums in Melbourne, Gothenburg, Durban, Amsterdam, and recently visited Columbia University, North Carolina University in USA. Prof. D K Verma serves as Expert Member of UGC Committees on Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) and on Implementation of Reservation in Central Universities.
